Should I upgrade my processor or my gpu?

I don't have enough money to upgrade both my processor and my gpu, but I want to upgrade my systems gaming capabilities. I've been thinking about buying another GTX 970 and using SLI (I currently own one), however, my processor is fairly outdated, which could cause problems on its own. Which upgrade would benefit my computer the most (in regards to gaming)?

My current processor: i5 2500k 3.30 GHz
My current graphics card: GeForce GTX 970

Budget: $400 - $500~

Yeah, I've been experiencing some bad performance on games like assassins creed and arma, I believe that's due to the processor. Thank for the input.

I suppose it depends what you use ur pc for. Newer MMO games seem to be cpu intensive in massive fights. Thats my issue.. Your gpu probably runs any game smoothly.
