I was looking at Seagate Barracuda 1 TB ST1000DM003, but I'm concerned about Seagate failure rate... And WD are too loud...

Yes, but it's not like it's distracting, and if you have sound playing at any moment, whether through speakers, or headphones, you won't hear it. No one through a microphone can hear it, and people who visit you aren't gunna question the sound of a HDD.

Well, I got old Thermaltake Element V case with opened top and that HDD is too loud, you can hear it from the other room. I'm buying now Define R5 and was concerned about HDD noise. I shouldn't be worried? I love to surf net in silence, but HDD won't allow me to do it.. why should i limit myself with headphones, i want to relax.

They are all about the same honestly when you're talking the same price/performance bracket. Don't get an enterprise drive they tend to be quite loud on seeks. IDK how you would really hear it though. I have 4 drives in my desktop and I can't hear any of them unless I turn my speakers off and my fans off and my NAS is the same way (more drives though).

What drive to you have that you can hear from another room?

Lol I know right, I've only had my stock CPU cooler hearable from a different room. Never a hard drive.

But like you said, they are pretty much all the same when under load, and if you get a new one, they aren't going to be loud. Yes, you'll be able to hear it, but what's the difference in that and your GPU fans making noise or CPU cooler making noise?

I don't remember the exact model, I bought it 5 years a go, but it is WD. It's immensely loud, when I start my PC up and when opening folders.

My GPU and CPU are quiet, cause I got aftercoolers.

Read this article on the WD rainbow.
Likely, WD red is your best choice.

You did not mention budget.
If that is not a problem, buy a 1tb Samsung 850 evo.
Dead silent, reliable, and fast.

In a word - yes. They're quick (not as quick as a Black), reliable, and quiet drives. They have a pretty good reputation even in typically negative user reviews.
