New Graphics Card AND Processor or just Graphics Card?

I currently have an Intel i7 2600k processor, a GTX 670 graphics card, and an Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3 Motherboard.

I am going to upgrade to the GTX 980 and was wondering if my current processor/motherboard is good enough to handle that or if I need to invest in a new processor as well?

I will be primarily be using it for gaming at high settings.

3rd Gen chips are still going strong and i think those had better OC capabilities than the 4th gen icore CPUs. Should be ok at stock speeds but i would recommend to OC at 4GHz if you can.

If you have the money to spend, go ahead and get the GTX980Ti quite a bit more performance over the 980 for only about $100. Processor should be fine.

Technically that is a second gen chip, but still a very good processor.

A new 14-/16nm video card -likely hitting the shelves in July or so- would work great with your rig.
