Hi all,

I had a terrible Windows 10 download experience. I had to "reset my computer" because the download failed, but the reset failed at about 66%. Now my computer turns on and loads the hard drive screen first (with the two drives listed) and then the Dell screen with the two Fn buttons to press in the lower corner. However, I can't access the BIOS no matter what buttons I try (F8, F9, F2, Shift+F8, F12, etc.) and the screen just goes to black with a single dash line that blinks once and then disappears. Nothing else happens.

I have tried every imaginable way to access the BIOS. I have removed the battery and tried resetting the BIOS by removing the coin battery, but neither had any effect. I cannot boot from an external drive because F12 doesn't work. I don't need anything on the computer, so I can wipe it all if needed - but I can't access anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The model is XPS L421X.

Thank you!

Hello,1.Hold and press [Shift] then turn off the system. 2. Press and hold the F2 button, then click the power button. DO NOT RELEASE the F2 button until the BIOS screen display.3. You can find the BIOS configuration.

Hi -

Yes I held it down for 10 seconds at least twice with no battery in. When the PC starts (with just the adapter plugged in) the lights are all normal and the screen is backlit as is the keyboard, even the caps locks key works - so I don't think its a power issue.

Have you pulled all the bats. and got a good nights sleep before getting back at it? Even if it doesn't help, at least you'll make better choice's with some rest, and not end at my final troubleshooting move, that is rapid deceleration using my "wall tool"..

Okay, so the Shift + F2 sequence worked! I am in the BIOS. So I guess its Windows 10 that is messed up. I will need to try to boot from a USB with Windows I suspect.
