I have 16 GB ram - only 8 GB usable!

According to the command [dmidecode -t 17] I have 2 sticks of 8192MB installed on board. However, only 8 GB is recognized by the cmos or usable. (checked via [free]). I use Zorin OS

it could be your motherboard? i know some mobos are limited on how much ram they can have

Motherboard is M4A78T-E
bios v. 3503
Amd athlon II x4 630 @2800MHz
Cmos shows installed size as 8192MB
I have 2 identical ram chips with this written on each:
DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 4Gx2 Intel XMP Ready

Mobo should handle up to 32gb
Unless of course I'm misunderstanding something here. I'm willing to accept that.

Specs show max as 16GB which would be a 4x4GB config

I see... So each slot will only recognize up to 4gb. Thank you for looking into this, suppose I should have double checked max size.
