Running Vista, should I move to Win7 or 10?

Hi guys, and thanks for helping. I run Vista and am very happy with it, and since I'm no longer a teenage computer geek with loads of free time, I don't reformat every 3 months like I used to. Like, since 2009. And I'm having...increasing instability in my OS.

So. I bought an upgrade copy of 7 years ago but never got around to installing it, since it's an upgrade copy and apparently some folks had issues migrating. Win8 looked like an abomination and I said 'no' pretty rapidly. Windows 10.... coming from Vista, how much of a shock will I find it? And is there an easy way to disable all that "metro" crap designed for things with tiny screens? I just bought a new SSD and I like the idea of doing a clean install, but don't know if I should just go 7 or try 10.

System:
AMD Phenom II 720 Black Edition /w giant tower cooler
Asus M4A79T Deluxe Mobo
Seasonic M12D PSU
Radeon 6870 Graphics Card (Yes, the one that sounds like you're inside a wind tunnel)
8 GB RAM

Yes, it's dated. I haven't needed more, but I'm thinking of upgrading to a new graphics card when the new 14(ish)nm processes are deployed in Q2 this year. And, realistically, probably a new CPU & mobo.

Will 10 even run on my system?

If I've placed this in the wrong section, I do apologize.

Thanks,

Gnar

10 will run on your system, and I would upgrade, considering that Vista is, well, not considered that great of an OS frankly, and will have performance/compatibility issues especially with any newer hardware.
Windows 7 has about the same interface as Vista. A few tweaks, here and there, but nothing that will bother you much.

Compatibility is not an issue with Vista, due to impressive cross compatibility between windows Vista and 7 drivers. However , 7 is about 5 to 10 percent faster and does have a few useful knick-knacks that Vista lacks. So it is worth the upgrade at least that far.

You can try out 10. If you are not happy , just go back to 7.
