Does a 2x or 4x M.2 raid controller or extender card for PCIe 3.0 x8 exist ?

As the headline says.

I have limited PCIe gen 3 slots in my motherboard, and by only using a x4 PCIe adapter card for my M.2 ssd i lose the other x4 lanes (graphics is reduced from x16 to x8).

I have found adapter cards which supports 2x M.2 interface however they are only PCIe x4 and that would limit the bandwidth of my SSD if i use two.

You cannot add more PCIe lanes to the motherboard by installing adapter cards. That is why it begins splitting them up to allow the widest range of uses instead of locking them into one slot.

Hi

I think you misunderstand my question.

I have x16 pcie gen 3 lanes divided across two pcie slots on my motherboard. Meaning that it supports following configurations.

1x16
2x8
1x8 + 1x4

The M.2 to pcie extender card is pcie x4. So my current configuration is the latter of the above. Because of this I have 4 lanes not being used.

So what I want is an 2x M.2 to pcie x8 instead of 1x M.2 to pcie x4 which is what I have now. But the only cards I can find with two M.2 ports are still pcie x4 interface.

I also know that there are some issues splitting over 8 lanes instead of just 4. So I guess I needs to be a dedicated raid controller but have not been able to find such.
