I recently moved to another house where the router is in the ground floor and I live on the 2nd floor. I don't get good connectivity (only 1 bar or sometimes absolutely nothing). I'm a professional Counter Strike player and I was getting horrible ping like around 1300. Before moving here I used to get 50-60 ping and my router was in my room. Does Wifi signal range affect my ping or wifi speed affects it? I was thinking of buying a wifi extender. Will that improve my ping and let me play online games without any problems? Will it affect my speed?
Thanks alot.

A wifi extender will usually make your ping worse while possibly making your speed a little better. For online games you generally do not need much bandwidth but do need low ping times. Because of this wifi is usually a poor choice for gamers, but if you have to do wifi it is best to be fairly close to the AP and not use an extender. Have you thought about using a Powerline Network Adapter to get the signal from the first floor up to where you need it?
