Hi I'm building my first computer.
I have Windows 10 on an SSD from my current PC. I just got a new Mobo, CPU (different chipset to my current build).
I just purchased a Windows 10 key ready but unsure if I can just take out my hard drive and add it in my new system without any issues.
I think I need to remove driver?? I'm not sure so any help will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks!

A windows license is linked to the motherboard your computer had when you installed it on the HDD/SSD. You can change the motherboard if it is the complete same type say if the motherboard got damaged or died and you had to RMA it.

You said you have just got a motherboard with a new chipset, so that means that that motherboard will not work with it unless you contact Microsoft and transfer the key to the new board. Call Microsoft and ask them to deactivate your copy on your current system so you can then use it on the new motherboard. They usually let you do that but maybe they have changed the license rules.

Give them a call and ask.

Hi, both boards work and I have not used the key. I am currently using my Win10 free upgrade. I was wondering if I have to do anything before I put the hard drive in my new build?
