I was looking all over and was very surprised to see little to no new information on this topic. There seems to be a lot of confusion over what graphics card to buy within the $200-$350 range and if at the time being it is worth it.

You have many choices from here: Gtx 960, Gtx 960 4gb, Gtx 970, R9 290, R9 380x, R9 380. A year ago when asked what $300 gpu should you get the answer would most likely be a 970 and not the 290, mainly because of driver issues. But, with AMD's newer driver updates and price drops all over the market, every choice is murky. You can no longer throw out AMD just because of Driver issues.

The newer open world games like Gta V, Witcher 3, and Farcry 4 are absolutely VRAM hungry. It is these games that even make a card like a 4gb 960 worth buying. On the other hand, is it even worth buying one over a 970 or a 290? And why are the R9 380's always overlooked? Do they truly have no place in the current market?

Let's shallow this whole topic a bit. What is the best gpu in 2016 for 1080p in terms of overall performance, price to performance, and longevity?

And yet, when you take a step back is it even worth it to go for a new GPU at this time? Both Green and Red team are promising newer, faster cards in the near future. Should everyone just wait?
