CPU Cooler Ins't Working?

Hello all,

I seem to be having some cooling issues which is causing my APU to run hot, very very hot. I'm running the stock cooler which is probably half the problem, however, the fan speed doesn't actually increase as the APU gets hotter which it should, right!? I know it is capable of changing speed because when I set a speed manually, it does indeed change. And even when I have my case fans (one front intake and on rear exhaust) and stock cpu cooler fan set on max RPM it still runs way too hot.

MoBO - A88XM-Plus (Bios Version 2502)
CPU - AMD A10-7870k (stock cooler for the time being)
RAM - HyperX Savage 2133Mhz CL11 8GB (2x4)
SSD - SanDisk 120GB
HDD - Western Digital Blue 1TB
PSU - EVGA 500W 80+Bronze
OS - Windows 10 64-bit
Case - Sharkoon TS3
Some corsair case fans

Pictures of temps plus one dodgy paint-edited for good measure:

This is after 60 seconds of Prime95... ouch.

This is with case fans and cooler fan manually set to max RPM. Still ouch.

Dodgy attempt at showing possible airflow.

Is the cooler faulty? Dodgy APU? Crap pre applied thermal paste by AMD? My case doesn't support more fans so that's not an option. Would a better cooler help such as the Hyper 212 Evo (which I've already bought because I'm impatient...)

Give me hope tech savvy people of tomshardware!

Solution
Might have too much or too little thermal compound between the CPU and the cooler. Could try redoing it, or get a better cooler, I don't use the stock coolers

Yeah I had thought it could be the paste itself. As it's stock it's pre applied and seems to cover the whole cpu so maybe it is too much. That still doesn't explain why the fan don't adjust to the increase in temp though, any ideas?

Yes it is plugged into the CPU header and no I don't have the latest BIOS but that would be my first thing to try I suppose. When I download the update from Asus and save it to a USB, it comes up as a .CAP file - is this correct? Don't wanna make my mobo crap out on me.
