I purchased a generic Chinese android tablet that connects fine to my home wifi modem but will not connect to my smartphone hot spot. I know the phone hot spot works because others have connected tablets and smartphones to it. I was really hoping to use the smartphone as a hot spot for the tablet because the smartphone screen is too small for using as such. The tablet shows that it is connected but any browser I attempt to use gives a message that the device is not connected to the internet. Both the tablet and the smartphone use wpa2 security. Another question I would ask is if a wifi app downloaded from Google Play store would help this situation? The tablet has android 4.4.1 installed.

Well, I finally found someone that could help me, my smartphone savvy niece. I explained to her what my problem was, and since the smartphone had been used as a hotspot in the past, we checked it with her smartphone for proper reception. Well guess what, she was connecting to my hotspot but her phone didn't have an internet connection, just like my tablet. She then told me to check and insure that "data enable" was checked under Mobile networks and sure enough it wasn't. I don't remember ever disabling it but it was. So I corrected that and now my tablet works fine with my smartphone hotspot. Whew! Now I don't feel so bad about purchasing this inexpensive, generic Chinese tablet.
