Alienware GPU Upgrade

I recently purchased an older 2009ish Alienware Aurora R2 with a 1st Gen i7 860, an ATI Radeon 5870, and a 525w PSU to run it. I am curious about upgrading the video card in the future but I want to see if It is worth doing. I want to possibly upgrade to a new card that has more graphical power but draws less wattage. I would imagine that is not hard given that newer cards are most likely more power efficient without sacrificing performance. I of curse will eventually transfer some of the parts to a new rig but wanted something to game on now. Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

a gtx 960 sounds like a good fit

I found a good deal with a coworker for an MSI GTX 770 Twin Frozr 2GB. I will make separate post as well but do you think I would be able to replace the PSU in this thing assuming the new one fits. I do know that I will have to rewire the rig which is fine.
