Hi, I have a HP Z400 with the specs below:

CPU: Xeon W3565
RAM: 1GB x 6 = 6GB (http://h20331.www2.hp.com/Hpsub/downloads/HP-Z400-Workstation-memory-configuration-and-optimization.pdf)
GPU: GTX 970
OS: Windows 10 64bit pro

I want to upgrade my RAM to something like 12GB or 16GB, but according to the page above it says "The HP Z400 Workstation supports Unbuffered 1-GB single-rank and 2-GB and 4-GB dual rank PC3-10600E 1333 MHZ ECC DIMMs". I checked some ECC RAM but they were so expensive. I checked about if non ECC RAM works and some people said they work OK but I'm not sure. (http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2644636/ecc-ram-ecc-mobo.html look at the Best Solution)

Do I need to get ECC RAM for my PC, or do non ECC RAM work as well? I once made a mistake about RAM and next time I really want to buy ones that work. I also want to get non ECC RAM if possible because ECC RAM is just too expensive compare to no ECC ones.

Please answer, thanks in advance. :)

According to this discussion (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z400-with-Non-ECC-memory/td-p/5448342), people are saying that they're PCs work with non-ECC RAM. I might take a bet and buy returnable RAM.
