Hej hej,

my problem is that my computer now only recognizes my monitor as generic Non-PnP Monitor. I searched the forum and applied every solution I could find, however none have worked out so far. Here are my PC spec and what I already tried:

Monitor: LG W2286L-PF
Monitor Cable: DVI
Graphics Device: Geforce GTX 560
Operating System: Windows 7

- I made sure I have the newest graphics device driver installed.
- I unplugged the monitor (both power and DVI-cable) and let it depower (8 hours +)
- I manually installed the monitor drivers via the device manager. LG offers a digital and an analog one. I tried both seperately and even rebooted each time after installing.
- I created a costum resolution with the Nvidia System Manager. This looks very grainy --> not reasonable as workaround.

When I connect the monitor to my Notebook (Windows 10) via HDMI it does work flawlessly, however.

I'm out of ideas now. I'd be really happy if any of you guys could offer some new options that I could try out.
Thank you very much in advance!

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately this gets me an error message that tells me that this mode of installation is not supported by the selected INF-file.

Thanks again for your fast reply.

In short: Yes, I browsed for the inf-file within the device manager and then added it.

Here's what I did exactly, step by step:
1. I right-clicked on the monitor in the device manager.
2. I selected "update driver software".
3. I selected "search my computer for driver software".
4. I clicked "select from a list of driver software on the computer".
5. I clicked "Data carrier" (I don't know whether this is the right translation) and entered the path to the unzipped driver folder.
6. This left me with the option of selecting two different models: LG W2286(Analog) and LG W2286(Digital). I tried both separately.

Since you specifically asked whether I browsed the inf-file (and not the folder) I repeated step 5 and entered the path to the inf-file as directory. However this had the same results in step 6 and also didn't solve the problem when I installed either one of the drivers (analog or digital).

Update: I just figured out I made a mistake when trying to connect the monitor to my notebook. It actually does work. Sorry, if I wasted your time there. (This is corrected in my initial post now)

Is formatting my PC a possible solution for my problem then?

Another update: I connected my monitor to my mainboard (via HMDI) and selected the onboard graphics device as primary graphics device in BIOS. The monitor is now no longer listed in the device manager, but apart from that it seems to be working properly, as I can select from the full range of resolutions again and the aspect ration is correct again, too.

This is of course no final solution to my problem, but I hope it sheds some more light on the problem.
