how many GTX 980 Ti's are required to run triple 2k monitors at max res and settings?

I am planning on building a gaming system that will be used for both flight and racing sims as well as other various rpg's and fps games such as Diablo III and Fallout 4.

The monitors I will be buying are Dell S2716DG and will be mounted on a gaming rig via the VESA mounts. I am pretty sure I won't be able to get by with a single GPU at max res which should be about 7680X1440.

The question is how many 980 TI's would be required in order to play the games that support ultrawide gaming at max settings with a minimum of 50+ fps.

On a side note, are there any special considerations as far as connecting all 3 monitors to ensure it will work and won't run into bandwidth issues at 144Hz?

So you are saying 3 1440p monitors in surround? So that would be a resolution of 7680x1440. That total pixel count adds up to 1.34 times the pixel count of 4k, this should run things at about 2/3rds of the performance of 4k. that being said you would be getting 50-60fps on games with 2 980tis.

have you researched which games support SLI? youre likely not going to be able to do it at max for a very long time, but minimum 2, more if games properly scale SLI. wait for pascal, and get 2 of the high end cards, or second to best depending on what market they aim each card to. youre looking at 33% more demanding than 4k (3840x2160).

project cars seem to scale fairly well, but definitely not even close to twice the performance of a single card. only game i looked up.

Note he has a mixture of settings with some options cut to OFF I don't think 60FPS will be doable on 6K.

I haven't researched which games support sli scaling yet, but I have heard from other racers running rFactor2 with 2 and 3 way sli, that they can run triple 1080p monitors with max settings at over 100fps and supposedly the game does support scaling correctly.

I may have to lower my display settings for some games to 1080p, but not sure at this time.

Took forever for me to get back to this thread, sorry guys. Opted to wait for the 1080 release and have 2 1080's in SLI with the high bandwidth bridge. Seems to be working out for the most part though I still have hiccups on occasion. Appreciate the responses.
