Possible DOA Onboard Audio on MSI M7...thoughts?

Hi guys,

Been working on this all day, and there's not much out there in terms of solid information. I put together a new build last night, and everything is working...except the onboard audio. The relevant components are:

Intel i7-6700k
MSI Z170A M7 (Fully updated BIOS, onboard sound controller activated)
GTX 970 (Fully updated drivers)

Essentially, the issue is that Windows won't recognize the onboard Realtek audio. I've attempted installing and reinstalling both the manufacturer's latest drivers, as well as Realtek's. I've tried both Windows 7 and Windows 10, same problem in both. Windows does see my HDMI Audio from the GPU. I've also tried installing the audio device BEFORE installing the display drivers that contain the HDMI drivers, do I'm fairly certain that GPU's onboard audio isn't overriding the onboard audio.

I've also tried legacy installing the Realtek device, but simply get an "Error 10" message, and no sound. Because Realtek won't correctly install, I also don't have access to the Realtek sound manager.

The MOBO's Intel audio controller does appear in the device list (when viewed in the show connections mode), and the controller disappears when I toggle the BIOS. Reports I've run also show the controller, but no corresponding audio device.

Also, I've assured myself the board itself doesn't have an audio jumper or something like that; the onboard sound is solely controlled by the BIOS setting.

Any thoughts? I'm nearly certain onboard audio was simply DOA, unless I'm totally missing something.

The documented case with Windows 10, Skylake systems featuring Realtek audio chips is that they are non responsive as the drivers although installed refuse to communicate with the OS and the device(sound card). The case you've mentioned is altogether new. Have you tried downgrading your BIOS a step or two? Have you also tried removing the motherboard battery for more than 5 mins before replacing it?

You may need to contact your seller or MSI and notify them of the issue and see what their tech support suggest. RMA'ing would be next in order if troubleshooting fails.
