Will the Intel i7-4790k work in the ASUS Z170 Deluxe LGA1151 Motherboard?

I was planning on getting the ASUS Z170 Deluxe LGA1151 Motherboard and the Intel i7-4790k but heard someone say that I would need the i7-6700kfor said motherboard. I don't care which one I get as the 6700k is only 30 bucks more than the 4790k. I just want to make sure that I don't get one that "doesn't work" for this specific motherboard.

4790k is socket 1150 so it won't work on the Z170 board with 1151 socket. The 6700k is 1151 and is what you need.

That person is right. 4790K is Haswell which requires a socket 1150 motherboard, like Z97. You need a Skylake CPU for a Z170 (=socket 1151) board. The 6700K is a good pick and there are a few nice extras with Skylake. Worth the $30 IMHO.
