Currently I have (2) 970 FTWs running on (3) VG248QE monitors and I'm looking to get near the 144hz. The 970s are great for a single 144hz monitor or in 3D, but I'm looking to use the triple monitor 3D and they just don't have the power to keep up with the fps needed for 3D or even utilize the 144hz.
While benchmarking, the 970s hit ~40-50 fps in 60hz on 3x monitors. And about 110 fps on a single monitor with 144hz.
I've noticed that the GPU RAM is maxed out at he 4gbs while testing. So I've considered upgrading to 2x 980 tis in SLI, or just getting the Titan X.. What do you guys think?

IMHO the Titan X is not a good option at all. The 980ti is only fractionally cut down, but can easily be found with aftermarket coolers giving it much more overclocking headroom. And it's like $350+ cheaper. 6GB VRAM is enough. If you OC both, you'll mostly find that the 980ti actually performs better for less money.

OP - to get a meaningful upgrade from your SLI 970s, you'd have to go to 2x980tis... But that's a huge amount of money. There will still be some games that require dropping the settings a little to reliably get over 100fps at that resolution. Particularly where you don't get great SLI scaling. You can't really go any better than 2x980tis at the...

Having said that - that's a lot of money. It's definitely a sizeable performance jump: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1595?vs=1496
BUT, are you sure you can't just drop the settings a little? Pascal (next Gen) is on the way. Just depends whether you're really prepared to lay down $1300 odd dollars to upgrade your (already pretty solid) graphics set up?

980tis will draw a lot more power too, so make sure your PSU is up to the task if you do upgrade.
