Hi community. Been looking around on google but can't find the answer I'm looking for and some of the terminology confuses me.

I work on a 3d pipeline, maya photoshop substance designer etc. and like to work on projects across two computers - my main powerhouse at home and then my laptop when travelling around. At the moment I'm using portable hard drives and usb sticks to transfer projects between the two so i am up to date but i would like to have the same folder replicated across both computers and have it so it syncs automatically (or at the touch of a button) so that when I turn on my laptop the files then update straight away (or at the touch of a button).

Any advice on a good solution welcome.

Thanks

Thanks for these - syncbackfree does not have the option to do what i want (According to the website its only in the paid version), and the freefilesync requires an FTP server - which i don't understand or know how to set-up. Guess I'll try and use something like onedrive or google drive

I'm not quite sure how those 2 options can't do what you need.
SyncBackFree - Create a profile to synchronize, and run it when you connect the external drive. Copies files in both directions.

FreeFileSync - does NOT require an FTP server. I've been using for years.
Set up the relevant folders to sync, and save that profile as an .ffs.

I think i must not be explaining myself properly. I want to work on a Maya project with various source files and images which are saved in a local folder on my desktop computer. I want to be able to turn this computer off, then turn on my laptop when i am on the road and have my relevant files download. Work on that in a hotel say, save and close, and then my refreshed saves appear on my desktop computer when i next turn that on.

Sorry if I did not explain this properly before. I am grateful for your help.

OK...that WILL require some online repository. FTP, OneDrive, DropBox.
I thought you mean syncing between desktop and laptop with an external drive.

Hi - just to say that I found dropbox/onedrive etc too slow so I ended up looking into freefilesync to update through my usb3 external hard drive - works a dream and does what I want (at the click of a button) so thanks very much for the solution.
