The Eurocom mobile server/computer was made available in 2011, and it incorporated Dual server processor capability, and ~125Gb ram. I am interested in the possible availability of a whole computer, motherboard(motherboard Mfr), or other parts that could be assembled to make a working dual socket laptop(hopefully an affordable one).

1dazme8,

1dazme8,

Checking both current and completed listings on Ebahhh in the US, UK, Canada, and Germany, I could not find any Eurocom Panther 4 for sale. Eurocom of course does still exist, but the prpduct line of course has changed and it appears that they no longer offer a dual CPU unit. This may be due to there being 12-core Xeon running at a good clip that are also more power efficient CPU's, for example the E5-2680 v3 @ 2.5 /3.3GHz which is also only 120W.

Anyway, a full specification Panther 4 by the way could cost- $15,000-20,000 so are probably rare and still very costly.

My suggestion is to consider a used Dell Precision M6800. These have a 17.3" screen, can use 4-core i7's up to 3.8GHz, and with high end GPU's such as the Quadro K5100M are very capable.

If you set on a mobile dual CPU system, it's possible to make one, but you would have to fabricate a case, and buy the screen and power supply, keyboard, and batteries from a high end laptop. Powering two CPU's may require a power supply beyond any existing laptop and you'd end up with a conventional desktop power supply that would have to be plugged in for use- it would draw so much power. However, if this was for laboratory use for example, the system could be built into an Aluminum suitcase with a partition. and a monitor and keyboard mounted fro portability could be removed and set up. This is or course, really a compact desktop with a handle, but would be easy to move and set up. I worked on a design for a system like this for a friend that travelled between an aerospace firm and a wind tunnel, but it would have cost $12,000- $14,000 and in the end he used a Precision M-series. which anyway, he could use on the plane.

What is the use for this system?

Cheers,
