I have Intel i7- 4770 non k version with Intel DB85FL motherboard. How can I check my CPU speed , ( which says upto 3.9 GHz )or how can I achieve this if I am at 3.4Ghz?

My main use is Flight Simulation - MS FSX and P3D.

Also please suggest if my motherboard has any limitations and I need an upgrade in terms of performance bottle nackinnacking.

Many thanks in advance

Solution
I do not play FSX much, but I decided to test it with task manager running.
I had been under the impression that FSX was very well multithreaded.
Perhaps not.
It seems that the primary simulation in my test runs on one single fast core. Yes, it is multithreaded in that textures can be loaded on separate cores.
That requires FSX.CFG jobscheduler parameter to be adjusted to designate the use of additional cores.
If you have not done so, this can help with your i7-4770.
Also, I may not have installed possible patches to enable more multithreaded.
Some google research may help.
The single core performance of a i5-6600K is going to be as good as it gets today with an overclock on a good chip.
Exactly the same as a i7-6700K and possibly...

Use the free app CPU-Z, in the CPU tab it will show what you are running at at the time, and look in the bottom left at multiplier, should show something like (8-39) which is the range it is possible for it to run on your mobo (will run as fast as it needs to))

The processor will increase the speed to it's maximum when it is needing to by the load. It will (turbo boost) the clock rate to the highest supported frequency depending upon usage. The only way that you would be able to increase your clock speed considering that it is the non k version is to increase the bck frequency. Considering that it is a b85 based motherboard and a non k processor you will not be able to overclock. Th program cpuid, or a widget will tell you what frequency you are running but considering that you can not overclock i wouldn't worry about it any way because it's not really going to matter.

You can check your cpu clock rate with cpu-Z.
The 3.9 number is a turbo rate which applies to only one core when the rest do not have much else to do.
That is not likely when running FSX, a multithreaded and cpu limited app.

Your I7 is not overclockable, and, your B85 motherboard is not overclockable either.
If you want more cpu capability for FSX, you are going to have to upgrade both.
Your i7-4770 has a passmark rating of 9832.
Some possible upgrades, which will also need a new motherboard and possibly ram are:
i7-4790K $350 rating = 11216
I7-6700K $381 rating = 11,021
i7-5820K 6 core $389 rating = 13,001
i7-5960X $1049 rating = 15,993
All of these can be overclocked, with perhaps an added 20% potential.

And, coming sometime this year is kaby lake with higher performance but unknown by how much or what the price will be.

FWIW, I use a i5-6600K with an overclock to 4.8 and it seems to run FSX perfectly well.
I estimate that it is about the performance of a i7-6700K running at stock clocks.

8-39 is the range of multipliers available to the cpu.
Directly below that will be the current core speed.
You will see 800 when the cpu is largely idle, and a higher number under load.
You may see 3900 which is the turbo speed on a single core when the load is on one core and the others have little to do.
If all threads are fully used as in a stress test, you should see 3400.

Dear All, thanks a ton for taking time and educating me on this.I now know that as it is a non k version it can not be OC and it will boost to 3.9 when the load is high but not in case of FSX:(

My year old investment on i7 is wasted it seems ( the vendor should have informed me prior to my purchase ) and another i7 6700k is now required.Again,Its time to save some hard earned money and chase the dream.
Well I sincerely appreciate help extended by all.

Best Regards,

Exactly the same as a i7-6700K and possibly a touch better.
Here is what you can expect.
skylake oc statistics.
What percent can get an overclock at a somewhat sane 1.40v
I5-6600K
4.9 3%
4.8 38%
4.7 70%
4.6 85%

I7-6700K
4.8 12%
4.7 51%
4.6 89%

Faster kaby lake processors are supposed to launch 2Q this year. performance, price, and availability are unknown.
I have doubts about 2Q since there should have been leaks by now.

I have done all the good tried and tested tweaks ( nvidia inspector, FSX.CFG tweakes,UIAutomationcore.dll) in FSX.....but still it crashes .....I am really disappointed. I dont undrestand what does is want in hardware to run flawless !! Any suggestions friends ?
