I've just finished building my first pc. I have it all plugged in and hooked up to a monitor but when I try to turn it on nothing happens. The GPU fans spin briefly but that seems to be it. The 20+4 pin and 4 pin connectors are correctly plugged in to the mobo from my understanding (my PSU cable has 2 4 pin connectors and my mobo has a 4 pin slot so I plugged in the correctly shaped one.

My specs are:
Intel i5-4460 cpu
MSI H81M-E34 motherboard
Ballistix Sport 8GB ram (2x4gb)
EVGA GTX90 960 2GB gpu
EVGA 500W PSU

Help would be much appreciated
Thanks

Removed the gpu and tried again. Only the cpu fan spins (no lights turn on)

The case fan spins (not sure whether this is new or I oversaw this earlier) and the 20+4 pin is plugged in correctly. An extremely faint red light flashes when pressing the on button and a stronger red light flashes when holding down the power button to turn the fans off.

Yes I'm saying there's no signal to the monitor connected to the gpu or with it removed and connected to mobo

I would suggest you reseat the cpu heatsink and fan assembly and you should also double check that there are no bent pins on the motherboard.
I encountered cases similar to this in the past where I wouldn't get a display on screen so in those cases I had to get the motherboards repaired.

The usb 3 port pins on the mobo are bent. Could this be the issue?

Is the motherboard new or under warranty? If it is then you should get the motherboard replaced if you can and also until you get your pc in an operating condition remove the gpu and keep it aside if you haven't already.
