If you have a quality 450 watt PSU then look at a GTX 960 very close to the same performance as the R9 380.

Depends on the rest of your pc, i have a R9 380 4GB and an Intel I5 4590, using a EVGA 430W just fine, never had a problem. However, if you're using a AMD cpu, you're gonna want to go 500w-550w minimum, and needs to be a quality psu

Will a Corsair VS550 ATX/EPS Vs Series 550 W 80 Plus Power Supply work for the 380x or 380.i have no intention of overclocking it.

It'll work, but the power supply isn't the best quality. Get Corsair CX600 instead of that one. It's better quality.

The card is expensive, so you want it to last. Get a good quality power supply.

I'm not talking theoretical here. Beyond the CX, the price per watt increases significantly. The CX is good enough for the intended purpose; I am using a CX series PSU in a similar PC for the last two years and it's running well.

can someone just answer the simple question, all i want is for the gpu to run without ruining parts in the PC i dont need overkill i simply need a psu to run this card and is cheap but has decent power. is the psu i choose good enough for all those specifications?

Well mister, you don't read your own thread properly.

You have "chosen" a couple of PSUs, and your 'simple question' has been already answered.

For your satisfaction, here is a recap:

No, neither of the 380 or the 380X will work on just a 450W PSU; they have too low output on the +12V rail and could also not have the required PCI-E connectors. Get a 550W or better. (DustinV)

Zerk2012 also suggested you go for a 960 which will have a way better chance of running on a 450W power supply.

To which I said:

For a 'cheap and non-overkill' PSU I'd say you look at any 500W+ power supply which costs around $70 or so(INR 4500+ if you're buying from India and PKR 6900+ if from Pakistan).
