why is someone else's computer showing up under "This PC" in Windows 8.1

I have an HP Stream laptop, with Windows 8.1. I'm living in a house with roommates, all on the same wifi. I noticed tonight that under "This PC" is listed "MiyasPC" and "Guest," which weren't there before. Now, I had already turned off file and printer sharing in the Homegroups/advanced sharing settings option. So I wouldn't think other computers on the network would show up. I also have a VPN installed on the computer, from PIA.

Do I need to do a restore? Does this mean other people could have access to my computer somehow? I have not allowed anyone to use my computer.

You do not need to do a restore.

Just because you can see other devices on the wifi network does not mean, per se, they have access to your computer files or printer.

Yes - you would have to share accordingly. And make sure that no one else has your logins and passwords.

"Guest" would be expected based on what your network router permits or is otherwise configured to accept. If "MiyasPC" has been permitted to physically join your house network (ethernet) or given the applicable wireless information, then that device as well is legitimate.

The key concern is who controls and administer's your house network? If you, and no one else, there is a problem.

If someone else manages the network then talk with that person to see if they...

If someone else manages the network then talk with that person to see if they agreed and granted access to the house network.
