Hello,

I'm currently looking for a GPU, i was planning to buy the MSI GTX 980 but i have realized that the Fury X is only around £50 more, is it worth buying the Fury X over the 980?

Or should i stick with the 980 or try to save up more and purchase a 980ti?

Is the 980ti much better than the Fury X?

Thank you in advance.

Solution
980 ti> fury X

fury X> 980

Nvidia generally has better support in games and they're usually better optimized for them. Plus great software and driver support. I have a 980 ti and have never regretted buying it at all. Would definitly recommend it

they'll all essentially perform the same at stock clocks, i have a gaming g6 from msi and its amazing with a great cooler and overclocks great. But if you're looking for something a little more go for a evga hydro copper 980 ti with its closed loop cooler

Personally i would go with the 980ti hybrid from evga. Since it comes watercooled the temps are quite low and it overclocks quite well.

The cheapest 980ti is £75 more than the Fury X, is it worth it performance wise?

although pascal is coming out soon this year, which will have faster gpu's and will also lower the cost of current gen tech

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but what is pascal?

Is this coming out shortly? would that mean waiting to get a new gpu is worth it?

Thank you in advance

Pascal is Nvidia's upcoming gpu architecture that's on the 14nm manufacturing process.

This means that basically much more powerful and power efficient gpu's are coming soon. Theres a good chance that if you buy a gpu now it could be surpassed within a few months.

its expected to come in Q2 or Q3

Polaris is also coming out this year, which looks just as promising as pascal, and it will be out this summer. Pascal is not till later 2016.

Looking at that, i see that the 980 and Fury X are very close at 1080p. Is there any point in getting a Fury X then?

Ah okay thank you,

Are any of the cheaper 980ti worth it or is it just best going for the more expensive ones such as the ASUS Strix?

After having a look at some places, i have managed to find the ASUS strix 980ti for the same price as the Fury X.
There are 2 different models of the Strix.
Strix OC and Strix, is the strix OC worth the extra £30?

The Fury X is water-cooled out of the box. That's why I mentioned it. Not sure if you were aware.

It's not really worth going for the 980 Ti Strix OC imo. You can overclock the stock Strix yourself.
As a side note, I'm not a fan of Asus graphics cards. I love their motherboards, but for graphics cards, I look somewhere else. But that's just me.

All your paying extra for is the manufacturer to do the overclocking for you. Not worth it in my opinion, especially when you can do it yourself.... or dont, as Your not really losing much in terms of noticable performance.

Ah okay, thank you for the reply :)

Currently, debating between these 3 cards:

ASUS Strix (Non-OC)

The zotac one has a beafy cooler and an insane out of the box oc to 1355, would suggest that one

While the Zotac is the fastest out of the box, it is also the largest. I also always wondered why they needed 3 fans to do what other companies are doing with just 2. I personally like the G1, however I think any choice you make you are going to be pleasantly pleased!

After checking the delivery and VAT for the cards, it will cost me £150 extra.

This is way out of my budget, is there anywhere where the card can be purchased cheaper?

Thanks in advance.

What resolution and refresh rate does your monitor support? All the GPUs that have been mentioned are overkill for 1080p 60hz and don't represent good value for money at all. A GTX 970 can give you the performance you need at 1080p 144hz or 1440p 60hz for a fraction of the cost.

What's the rest of your PC's spec? Having a balance of components is important as it prevents bottlenecks.
