I have been looking for a laptop I can use with a dedicated GPU that I can use for some 3d rendering and animation. I have a desktop that does this really well, but I travel a lot now and dont always have access to it, that being said my budget is from like 900-1300. I have looked into lenovos a bit and have heard good things about them. I dont need it to be able to do anything super crazy, just need to be able to run applications like mud box and maya on it.

Mudbox and Maya are both resource heavy; they eat up RAM and CPU very quickly. Especially with longer cuts you may be working on, and on a laptop, this could be tricky.

I have a friend of mine that has a beefed up Toshiba Satellite that does the job well. Has an i7, 16GB of RAM, SSD 320GB, etc. He says it works just fine for him, but he had to build upon how it came. Either way, the minimum specifications you want to look for are i7 (preferably Intel), if not any of the AMD 8 cores will work, 16GB of RAM, and a GPU capable of providing a minimum of 1440x900 resolution.
