scanner not working

I have downloaded a HP J 2050 J 510 A software. The printer is working. The scanner icon is showing but it is not working.
Please help

Did you get an installation CD with the printer. What about the user manual?

What operating system are you using. How is the printer connected?

Are you getting or seeing any error codes or warning messages?

Double check your installation via the printer's test pages and the driver information found in the Device Manager windows.

Try a full reinstall using the appropriate Operating System drivers from HP.

It can be difficult sometimes to identify the correct driver file(s) to download. Take your time and read the download descriptions/choices carefully.

And follow the installation instructions very carefully.

Need to narrow things down a bit.
