So, I'm a noob at computers, and I'm not done building my current one, I already have a HDD and a sdd, but while walking to school today, I came across a Seagate 1tb HDD on the floor. My question is what would if I use it? Would I get a virus and all my storage end up getting the virus too?

Solution
If it has been thrown or dropped on to a hard surface like a path or road, it will very likely have been internally damaged so it won't work anyway.

If it does miraculously work though, but it is infected with viruses, your own storage devices could also become infected if connected to the same PC at the same time.

There are ways to avoid this happening yet still find out if the drive is usable without any risk to you, but I don't wish to explain how at this time. I'm too busy helping members who have more pressing issues they need help with.

Quick suggestion:

Use a desktop computer from which you disconnected all existing HDD's, SDD's, and network connections.

Connect the "fallen" HDD. If it boots and works just reformat it. Do not look at anything or otherwise poke about.

Once formatted you might be able to use HDD but you should never trust or count on the HDD staying functional. More fun to take apart, learn how it works, and save the really strong magnets inside.
