Fairly similar System, only slight differences, I don't see a reason for paying for a black drive for mass storage, and the 390x is a bit more robust than the 970. Either system is great though.

At that price point it opens the door up a bit further. For this budget I also think he could go with a 4th gen and should have enough to get into 980ti range.
