Hello!

My system specifications:

* Asus z170 deluxe
* Intel i7 6700k with EK predator 240
* Corsair dominator platinum 16gb 3200mhz
* Evga 850 p2
* Asus GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II OC
* Hyperx 240 gb SSD
* Seagate 2TB HDD

Yesterday I got my new cpu cooler(Ek predator 240) and everything was working smooth. I got good temps(24-26 degrees celsius) while idling. My room is somewhat hot, so I could not expect any lower temps. Today I figured I would try the 5-way optimization and used this guide from ASUS as a guide. After reaching 4.9 ghz my computer freezes and reboots. This was expected as stated in the guide. After rebooting the Q-code display shows 00 and the computer will not proceed booting. I don´t even get access to bios, as my monitors are blank.

I have tried reseating the RAM and GPU and resetting CMOS, this did not affect anything.
I also tried to apply some pressure to the waterblock and this time I got it to boot. Everything was running as it used to. I tried restarting my pc to see if the error persisted, and it did not. However when I turned it off and back on I got the 00 code.
After this I removed the cooler and removed the CPU. I checked for bent pins in the socket, but did not spot any. There was also some TIM on the green part of the CPU, right below the heatspreader, but it came off pretty easily. I then reseated the CPU and attached the cooler. This time I tried rotating the waterblock, but it should be mountable in all positions.
After this I got it to boot again. This time I also tried restarting and power down/up and I was still booting.However those double zeroes blinked a couple of times in between the other q-codes. I ran some stress tests for like 25 minutes and no errors/crashes. I then left the computer on as I had to leave for a couple of hours. When I came back I played two matches of CS:GO before turning the computer off. When I turned it back on again the problem was back: Q-code 00.

Has anyone experienced this before? What could be wrong?

Later(if I have the energy) I will try to swap back to the stock intel fan to see what happens.

I appreciate all answers.

Jonas

make sure the cpu cooler is not too tight.

So I went ahead and removed the EK predator and re-installed the stock intel cooler, and the problem went away. It has been running stable ever since. I am convinced, as I garyshows pointed out, that the waterblock was too tight. I have not yet re-installed it, as I have been busy with exams. What I find odd is that I followed the instructions perfectly. It says that the waterblock should be tightened until I reach the end of the thread, which is what I did. Nevertheless, I will probably re-install it tomorrow, and I will update the thread with the results.
