hey guys ive been a silent fan for years but now have an issue worth posting, so sorry if this thread already exists i cant find it.

I have a gaming PC i built and made as future proof as possible a couple years ago SPECS BELOW

cpu: i7 4770K
MOB: MSI Z87 GD65
GPU: GTX 970
RAM: 8GB Sniper PC3-12800 and 8GB corsair vengeance PC3-12800
SSD: 8 of various types and sizes (not the problem)
PSU: EVGA superNOVA 750

anyway the problem. when i launch some games the whole system turns off and does not come back on till i unplug the PSU bleed the MOB of power and then restart. the whole system just bricks itself until i do this (scared the ever living shit out of me the first time). the rig can run most games at 5760X1080 at close to or over 60FPS most of the time however on a few select games the whole rig locks up. games include GRID 1 but not 2, Rome Total Ware, Bioshock, Mass Effect 1, and a random assortment of others (i have like 200 in my steam library). it crashes before i get to any game play. after the Intel screen or whatever sponsor screens popup thats when the crash happens i dont get to even the main menu.

I cant figure out why it is only these select games and i have tried fresh installs from steam. i use to have a GTX 780 and and i had this problem with some games but not all on that list. i dont see why i can run ARMA 3 at 5760X1080 no problem but when i run GRIDit crashes? also this happens when i run off of just one monitor.

I am at a loss. i can run full benchmarks but i crash when games that toasters (advanced toasters granted) can run.

thanks in advance!

Well you have the bottom quality model of the Supernova series which is unfortunate. That's not to say for sure that it's the problem. There are some aspects of its' performance you can check and others you can't without testing equipment. What you can do is check the voltages to see if they are within spec. There are some aspects of its' performance you can check and others you can't without testing equipment. What you can do is check the voltages to see if they are within spec. Download and install HWinfo (freeware). When it starts click the box for 'sensors only' and look at the voltages. The +12volt rail is what we want to look at specifically but look at the others as well. Here's a link to tell you what they should be. ATX Specs. You can let it run in the background and start a game. After a few minutes, assuming you didn't get a shutdown, you can look at the values for minimum, average and max to see if they remained in spec. Let us know what you come up with. The rest of your system looks very good. Hwinfo has lots of other good information you can check such a temps etc...

I would say that is your power supply, when you enter a game, the video card starts doing the hard job, so it needs more power from the PSU, if you PSU can't fulfil what the video card needs, it shuts down, or maybe overheat
