I'm looking to upgrade my ram from 8gb to 16gb. Not sure if this is related or not, but after installing my ssd and fresh install of os, I've been getting windows errors suggesting me to switch to lower memory using themes. I've also gotten it while loading some games like gta 5. Computer specs follow below:

Windows 7 home prem 64bit
Corsair 1000w psu
Asrock Z77 Extreme4
I7 3770k - 4.4ghz
GTX 580 1.5gb
Samsung Evo 850 1tb - Primary
WD Green 1tb - Storage
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Current memory: 8 Gb of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145224

Here are a few options that I saw to upgrade to:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231628

Worth the investment? Budget is not a concern.

Thank you.

The Corsair Vengeance 16GB kit is very good, trustworthy manufacturer with a reliable returns and warranty team so I'd get that if I were you. As for performance you won't tell the difference between any of the kits so if budget is a concern then get the cheapest kit.

It is a decent upgrade but if your motherboard supports it, definitely spend a little bit more and get a quad channel kit of DDR3. It will run a bit quicker and will help when spreading different programmes to different sticks of RAM.

1.52Gb with minimal tasks running excluding Firefox. I question why I'm getting memory notifications in windows before and during games.

My motherboard is a bit dated so it isn't supported.

That's a shame! The dual channe kit is good though so go for it. But like the guy above is saying I don't think it's the amount of memory that's the issue. I have 8GB in my gaming rig and it's enough to run all games at 1440P.

I usually don't tinker around my many windows settings asides from disabling the defrag on my ssd. I'll give it a shot and see how things go...

I did originally have an additional 4 gigs, but the sticks went back awhile back and haven't been wanting to do anything until the messages started occurring. If you look at my orig post, I also posted a few different products. Let me know your thoughts, forgot to mention also that I'm not planning on overclocking. Just plug and play.

Of course ddr3 1600 cl 7 sounds more appealing than 1866 with cl 8 with the latency. I know there are tons of threads on information like this, but I'm sure they're are more or less like apples to apples right?

No, no, no. It shouldn't be disabled. It should be set to system managed size. Disabling it can cause a number of problems. I just wanted to make sure you hadn't. If you're running Windows 8.1, there is a memory leak issue caused by running different resolutions for games vs the native resolution of your display. If this is the case, change your game resolutions to match your display and make sure you have all Windows updates installed.

Thanks for clarifying, it is set up to have the system managed size. Still curious why windows would throw those message at me, I do have them to not remind me anymore, I never got a change to look at the task manager when it happened. I know there are better ways to benchmark it, but for example when I'm in gta, it usually doesn't suck more than 5gb with 3gb remaining in the task manger.
