Hi,

Dell Laptop 14z 5423
SSD Drive
I have Windows 8.1 but I am trying to install clean windows 7 but I couldnt because in setup i couldnt find any drives, I think its because of SSD drive but I am not taking any risk because of data.
Does anyone know how to fix it?

Solution
Good job with the backup, DexteR1499! Indeed, it's always risky to tamper with the storage drives. Besides, if you plan to get rid of the Windows 8 OS and boot only into Windows 7, then you'd definitely need to format the entire drive in order to avoid any potential booting issues as well. Having a copy of your files stored on a different location is the best way to prevent the data-loss headaches. Better safe than sorry, right?

Best of luck!

Hey there, DexteR1499!

I'd strongly recommend you to backup any important data from the laptop somewhere else (an external or another storage device) before proceeding with this. If you tamper with the storage without backing up your files, you are facing potential data loss.
In case you are trying to dual boot both Windows 8.1 and Windows 7, I'd recommend you to follow this Dual Boot Installation tutorial. Another thing you could try is resetting BIOS from the settings to check if that will help you recognize the SSD properly.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I just want a clean installation of Windows 7 and to do that I need to select a drive so I can format it and install clean windows, but i don't see any drives, i saw on YouTube it could work with ssd driver but the dude in the video created a partition from scratch which i don't want.

Hey there again, DexteR1499!

In this case, I'd recommend you to check the connections to the SSD. You should also consider giving the BIOS reset a try and get the SSD properly detected. It could also be from the Windows 7 installation CD itself, so I'd suggest you create a new bootable CD/USB with the same OS version and attempt the clean installation again.
The whole idea behind a clean install is to format your drive, so make sure you have your data backed up somewhere else. Otherwise, installing a new genuine Windows OS would require you to erase everything and reformat the SSD.

Good luck!

My SSd is 500GB and I currently have 3 partition first one is 250 other one is 7 and the third one is 230 i guess.
So i already backup my all data in 3rd drive. DO you still think its risky?
