svchost exe can use insane amounts of memory when silently installing updates. It should be ok in a couple of hours.
Also your specs are missing so if you are running an older dual-core/i3/a series AMD on 3-4 GB RAM then it is something to be expected.
Go to Windows update and install all of the updates, do you PC restart so they can be configured and you'll be done in 1-2 hours.
