Possible hardware issue...

I just installed RAM and a few hard drives on my computer. Afterwards, I have noticed that my computer lags when I preform any task. So when I am typing, there's a slight pause about every 30 seconds. When I move my mouse it pauses for a second before moving again, about every 30 seconds. When I play a video, it makes a "brrrrr" sound during the playback during sections in the video.

Is one of the HD causing this problem? What are some things I can do to check?

Thank you.

One or more of the hard drives (if they contain data) could be heavily fragmented so try defragging them.

Mind you, that would only cause the symptoms you've described if you were actually running something off one of those drives (eg Windows, an application, or a multimedia file.

Thank you for the quick reply. All of the HDs are empty and freshly formatted. Windows is booting off a SD drive. I will mention one thing, my External drive, which is the oldest (4 years old) has been giving me issues. I tried to rename it and it caused Explorer to crash twice. When I tried to reboot, it wouldn't reboot until after I unplugged it. I didn't think that would be the issue because Windows wasn't installed on it or anything related to the installation. However, do you think that even though it is plugged in, it's causing performance issues? Is it going out? I'm able to write data, but I will admit -- it has been slow.

I'm noting this when my computer is under very low stress. I just did a fresh install of Windows, so nothing graphic heavy is being used right now.
