I want to do some simple overclocking on my i5 6600K 3.5GHz to 4.2 and I am curious to know do I have to change the voltage too or do I only have to change it if I crash?
The average 6600K will run at 4.2GHz at 1.2v. You should switch the CPU voltage to either Manual or Adaptive and put the value at 1.200v. The Auto setting will likely over-volt it.

If your system is unstable, (i.e. you crash) then yea, increase the voltage a little bit. You want to be monitoring your CPU temperature at each voltage increase.
