I have a few questions:
Should I get the i5 6600 or i5 6600K? What is the primary difference?
If I put my Corsair H55 on an i5 6600/K, would it be okay?
Would I need to add thermal paste and what difference would it make?
Thanks for any help! :)
Sorry if I've made a mistake somewhere. This is my first time posting :)

Solution
It depends, the 6600 is perfectly capable of gaming and will work with every GPU. The K-version has an unlocked multiplier, so it can easily be overclocked.

The H55 will work fine with both. It might struggle a little bit if you overclock the 6600k, but at stock speeds it's fine. And yes, you would need to add new thermal paste onto the CPU when you fit the cooler.

Also, if you want to overclock the K, you would need a Z170 motherboard, which is a bit more expensive. You could expect saving over $50 on the 6600/6500.

Hello,

The two processors are basically exactly the same for your purpose. Apart from that the K means that the chip has an unlocked multiplier, therefore can be overclocked.

The Corsair H55 will work well with both the i5 6600 and i5 6600k, but you will need new thermal paste. Personally I would recommend Arctic MX-4 thermal paste.
