I'm am currently looking at buying a gtx 970 for a new build am I going to have trouble playing any newer games at 1080p with max or high settings I will have a i5 6600k and do plan on going sli in the future

Gtx 970 is great 1080p and you will be playing the ultra preset. I5 6600k is powerful enough to max both 970s in sli. Verify that your Motherboard can support sli and that the power supply can deliver at least 750w.
