Just bought the parts to a new gaming PC and before I put the graphics card in I was able to get the computer to boot to bios. However if I attempt to do a fresh install of Windows 8 the computer restarts. I was wondering if it was the power supply because when I plug in the graphics card and attach the power connectors the screen doesn't display. I have tried several methods to download Windows 8 but all crash before it even boots

Specs
MSI H81M-E34 Motherboard
Intel I5 quad core process
EVGA 600GB 80 plus bronze
My graphics card is a XFX 8ghz graphics card not that it matters in my scenario

Your computer cannot connect to the internet without an operating system. If you don't have a physical copy to install you can't " download " windows 8. Without the OS all you can do is enter the BIOS . If you do have a copy first boot to BIOS and set the boot sequence to your CD/DVD. Put the install disk in your drive then click save and exit. Your computer should try to start you will see a screen that says press any key to boot from disk. After that follow the instructions on screen it will walk you through anything else you need to do which should be click on install. Then you wait till that finishes. Get your install disk out and then you can get on internet and do ALL windows updates. One more thing DO NOT stay on windows 8, at a minimum upgrade to 8.1 and in your case probably go to Windows 10 its a lot more stable and free.

I would if I could run Windows 8. I have tried installing via USB and CD. The Windows logo appears than a message pops up for a split second and the computer restarts. I even tried a UEFI install but no luck. CPU Temps are steady at 30-35 degrees Celsius.

Well you solved a future problem so that's a great help I'll continue to use the power supply till the new one arrives. Just need to figure out this crash issue

I just installed the new power supply. The system still shuts down when I try to install a OS without the graphics card and the system doesn't display when graphics card is plugged in.

Sorry your still having problems. The only thing I can think of is that your onboard graphics are still turned on when you hook up the add in graphics card and that's why you get nothing with it in. My brains tired but maybe go into BIOS and see if there's an option to disable onboard graphics.

I will attempt that next. Any luck with figuring out why installation crashes as soon as loaded? That's the biggest problem right now. This custom build cost me 800+ dollars and I've been stuck with this problem for almost a month now.

Bumping because this has become urgent at this point. I have spent over 700 dollars on this computer and it's literally a paperweight till I can get a proper OS on it.

So I just spent two months tinkering with this computer I finally got it to boot, but the exception is that I needed to use a random 2GB stick that I found lying around the house. If I try to install any RAM above that the computer will crash on boot. DIMM2 does not seem to work with any RAM that I put in. Computer turns on but no picture is displayed.
