GeForce GTX 960 or AMD R9 380?

I'm planning to upgrade my GPU from GTX 750Ti, but I don't know which of these two are the best. I think the R9 380 has a bit more power than the 960, but I've never had an AMD GPU before and I don't know anything about it. What do you guys think?

They're about the same performance wise. You should decide based on the games you intend to play and the features offered by one card over the other.

For example, if it were me, I would want the GTX 960 so that I would be able to turn on the Nvidia-exclusive PhysX FLEX weapon debris effects in Fallout 4.

If Battlefield 4 is your game, the GTX 960 is a little bit faster.

R9 380. Why? More memory,Better floating-point performance.More shading units,More texture mapping units, and slightly higher crysis 3 framerates.

If you need a better clock and effective memory and less TDP go for Nvidia. Although I recommend R9 380. It can run 1080p games quite well. Like Bioshock infinite, at high,1080p and you'll get 80 fps.

Hope this helped! :)

What is your current build, mainly the PSU? I would recommend the 380 over the 960. If you were to go 1440p I would recommend the 390 next. You will have a bit more power draw with the 380 over the 960 but not by much. Whichever card you buy, I just like making sure you have a quality power supply because I don't like recommending new components if the PSU is going to compromise their safety. Something like a 550w PSU in the top 2 (or 3) tiers will be more than enough. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

R9 380 has a higher effective speed. The reason to consider a GTX 960 though are:
1. Low power consumption - good if you're PSU isn't the best, also creates less heat
2. More up to date hardware - the r9 380 is the r9 285 rebranded, so it's hardware is a bit older.

Other than that the r9 380 is better. The price is the same, so really the only reason to get the GTX 960 would be if you're PSU is under 600 watts or is just old, so you probably want the 380.

Thanks for the reply. That was helpful, but I have one more concern. I'm a battlefield 4 player and I've been playing playing ever since. On YouTube I was watching a video (about 1 year old) about the comparisons between the 2 GPUs, and the AMD seems to support Battlefield 4 on 32-bit only. Has this changed with updates or no?

I'm not 100% sure I understand. It's only playable on 32bit Windows? Or AMD cards only run on a 32bit client of BF4? Either way that isn't the case. If it runs on 32bit it runs on 64.

Get the 380 (or splurge a little extra for a 380x hehehehehehe).

I can't stress it enough; GET THE KNIFE! +1 if you get it.

I have a 960 at the moment because I wanted something quiet and cool for my ITX build and didn't want to upgrade my PSU (I believe most people recommend a 550w for the R9 380 but it depends who you ask and what brand your PSU is). If none of these reasons apply to you then get the R9 380 and never look back.

I'm still googling to see if the R9 380 supports 64-bit battlefield 4, still can't find a proper answer. Oh well, I guess I have to go for the 960 then. Thanks for all the help guys. I appreciate it.
