Ok so i just installed my "new ac router" but my 5ghz connection on the new router is noticeably worse (4 bars to 2-3) on 5ghz, Full bars on 2ghz, my network card is a centrino ultimate-n 6300, which i know isn't all that bad, first thing i want to know is if it would be worth buying an external usb wifi adapter like this

My last question is if i should just go full on pass throught powerline, direct to wall sockets.

i have heard lots of mixed things on powerlines resulting in people getting their mbps capped/low mpbs. I have a 50mbps connection, i stream via xbox app and my xbox one is wired, i just want to improve my 5ghz signal HELP PLS:(

Solution
Are there any big metal objects between you and the router? Filing cabinets, fridge etc.

Make sure the router is reasonably high up and level.

Try not to sit between the WiFi antennas (usually in the lid of a laptop) and the router.
Are you actually having speed problems? The signal bar is pretty irrelevant. You'll almost always have more signal on 2.4GHz because it penetrates walls better, but you might still have more speed because there's much lower channel widths and more interference on 2.4GHz.

A half-decent 802.11AC connection will blow any powerline out of the water, and 802.11n is likely similar.

Would suggest you look at running ethernet if you have speed issues. USB connections aren't going to be good for speed, but if you've got a desktop you could drop in a PCIe WiFi card.

i constantly get 2 bars of 5ghz which is terrible and it affects my download speed from 50mbps+ all the way down to 20mbps :( which is what i am trying to fix. I go just a tad bit closer to 3 bars and the speed jumps to 45-47mbps, im talking 2 walls/15 ft away
