How do I set BIOS RAID options after CMOS battery change in Dell Studio XPS 435MT

Hi,

I have just changed the CMOS battery in my dell Studio XPS 435MT. I followed the instructions in the manual and took photo images of all the BIOS setup screens. However, when I turned the computer back on some options in setup are not available.

This PC has been great, so I would like it to be exactly the same as it was before changing the battery.

I have a RAID setup. Here's what's different:

1. Hard disk boot settings priority:

- Before battery change I had [RAID: Intel ARRAY 01]

- After battery change the only options there is no RAID ARRAY 01, there is an option for SATA: ST3500620AS

2. Hard Disk Boot Priority:

- Before battery change I had [RAID: Intel ARRAY 01]

- After battery change the options are:

1st Drive: SATA: ST3500620AS
2nd Drive: SATA: ST3500620AS

I have attached 4 images of these settings the first two images are of the settings before and the second two are of the settings after without RAID options.

How do I get these two RAID settings back please?

At the minute the PC is just sat in powered on in BIOS. I dare not let the PC boot into Windows as it is so I don't know what to do.

Help would be very much appreciated - thanks.

Hi,

I’d just like to feedback back that after I booted into Windows and then restarted the PC and went back into BIOS using F2, the BIOS RAID ARRAY 0 boot device settings had gone back to exactly how they were before the battery replacement.

So, Windows must change the Boot device settings from the disk number to RAID ARRAY 0 for you. For anyone else, that does not know what to do with the boot device setting after changing the CMOS battery, like me, choose the hard disk as the boot device and then choose the hard disk again the 3rd device in the boot device sequence, Windows will then set that setting back to RAID ARRAY, if you have a RAID ARRAY setup working on the PC.

After doing more research, and more research, I entered all the BIOS settings from before the battery change I could and then chose SATA: ST3500620AS as the 3rd bootable device because RAID ARRAY 0 wasn't an option.

Then, I took a risk.

I then pressed F10 to save the settings and exited, as the system restarted I immediately pressed 'control' and 'I' at the same time to get into the RAID setup. I then took a photograph of the RAID settings for later.

Then, I exited and crossed my fingers to see if the system would boot into Windows - it did!

Now, I need to figure out where Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST ) has gone. It looks like when I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 IRST did not get installed. And, I need to figure out how to rebuild the RAID ARRAY 0 setup, but at least my system seems OK.

Phew!

PS. I was surprised I got no help from the forum.

I took a bit of an informed risk; but, it worked out fine.
