I have an original Windows 7 Professional disk. My wife has a laptop that has Windows 7 Ultimate installed, and has a legitimate (verified) Windows OEM key. I want to do a complete reformat of the laptop, but she doesn't have her original Windows disk.

My question is, can I use my Windows 7 Pro disk to install windows back onto her machine, and then use her Windows 7 Ultimate key with it? Is it just the key that activates various different versions of Windows, or do I need to find a specific copy of WIndows 7 Ultimate?

I've tried looking around for a legit ISO of Win 7 Ultimate, but the only place I can find to download it from is the Microsoft site itself, but because my wife's Windows key is an OEM one, I can;t download it.

You could also write the windows 7 pro install files to the hard drive, remove ei.cfg from the sources folder, then reburn the files to disk. This would create an install media that would allow you to choose all editions from a single disk. Especially handy if you fix a lot of computers, which I do.
