Hey everyone so I'm putting together my final list of parts for my budget gaming pc. I have chosen a intel i5-6600k, Gigabyte GA-H110M-A, 8gb dddr4-2400, an 120gb ssd + 1tb hdd now I need an appropriate gpu to tie together this build. I had planned on getting the Gigabyte Radeon R9 380 4GB [$327cdn]. Now I'm wondering if this will fit well or if I should look at a GTX 690 or even something better around the same price mark.

You're going to be getting about the same performance out of both cards. Look up some benchmarks videos for each card with which types of games you'll be playing to get a feel for what you want. Both are good choices.

Both will give you nearly the same performance, you need to look up advantages to AMD and Nvidia, for example, AMD's GPU (in this case) has more raw power than it's Nvidia counterpart, but Nvidia has better drivers and has Shadowplay. Good luck

They're about the same performance wise. You should decide based on the games you intend to play and the features offered by one card over the other. For example, if it were me, I would want the GTX 960 so that I would be able to turn on the Nvidia-exclusive PhysX FLEX weapon debris effects in Fallout 4.

Which they charge you extra for, they even charge you more for a backplate, something every video card should come with

Oh you're right, it's a whole 1% difference with the 16.1 Crimson drivers.

Pick a higher resolution like 1440p, and the difference widens. This is an indicator of which card will last longer in terms of performance as time goes on.

And when DX12 games are finally released, I wouldn't be surprised if the R9 380 becomes twice as fast as the GTX 960. But hey, don't take my word for it. Wait it out and see :)

I would simply choose Nvidia over AMD just because of many exclusive features, better driver support, low power consumption, low temperatures etc.

R9 380 may perform 2-5 FPS better in some games, but at the end of the day, it's the Nvidia for which most of the games are optimized. And GTX 960 will overclock much better than R9 380 and still run cool so that 2-5 FPS difference would also be compensated.

Even new Nvidia drivers will increase 2-3 FPS in certain games.
