Install Win 7 on new Win 8 laptop

Hi. I'm buying a used Alienware 17 R1 laptop with Windows 8.1. I have a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 disc and would like to install it over that. So this is not a rollback/downgrade I guess. How should I do this and ensure everything works? Thanks.

P.S. This has nothing to do with whether I love Windows 8 or not. For the person this is going to, he needs Windows 7. Thanks for understanding :)

You can do a completely clean install, wiping the drive before the 7 is installed. You can also do the "clean install" that leaves the windows old folder, which would contain the data files from the windows. 8 install.
