Hi!
So my cpu is overheating and i think it is because the voltage is to high. It is at 1.29V when ideling and 1.338V with 100% load. With 100% load the temps are around 100 celsius, and I know that it is way to high. The CPU is also always runnig at 4.4 GHz and i dont know why. Should be 4.0 GHz
Any sugestions? Lower voltage on CPU?

Spec:
Asus Z97-A
i7-4970k
Gforce gtx 970
Corsair Vengeance LP 1600MHz 8GB x2
Corsair Rm850
Kingston SSD 120 GB
Samsung SSD 500 GB
WD 1TB HDD
Win 7 Professional
be quiet! Dark Rock 3

Solution
Well that's about right as far as frequency and voltage. It should jump around quite a bit, that is normal.

However the XMP behaviour seems off. Especially since you are only going from 1333 to 1600. If you are happy with this the way it is, then no problem. If you wish to investigate it further, then I would suggest downloading the latest BIOS and updating. Then re-enable XMP and see if the problem returns.
Well first off, the clockspeeds are correct. It has a base clock of 4GHz and a Turbo clock of 4.4GHz.

Do you have your Vcore set to Auto? Most motherboards are overzealous in setting Vcore to guarantee stability. I had the same issue with my i7 4770K. I manually set my voltage lower. The procedure for testing is much the same as overclocking. You set the voltage and stress test you CPU (with Prime 95 or similar) and verify that the system is stable. You keep lowering the voltage until you become unstable. Then put the voltage back to the last stable voltage + a small bit to guarantee stability.

Well I dont know what Vcore is and I dont go in to the bios becasue im scared i will mess something up :) But i will look at that. If you know some trustworthy source on how to go int to the bios and fix it i would appreciate tho?

But it is at 4.4 all the time, is that normal?

I am using CPUID(cpuz) and AIDA64, and i reinstalled my pc a while ago and I did not have this problem then.

I put in some new RAM, and to make it run at 1600 (was running at 1333) I enabled XMP.

Well there are a few things to address:

First off your original post says you have a Vcore of 1.29V at idle and 1.338V at 100% load. These voltages are very high. Do you have the ASUS software installed? Ai Probe and whatever else? It's possible that it could be overriding Vcore.

Enabling XMP profiles shouldn't cause any significant increase in your CPU temperature. However if the RAM you added is pushing up against your heatsink, it could be interfering with it's contact to the heatspreader on your CPU.

The ram is not touching the heatsink. But what are you suggesting about the ASUS software? Should I install it again? Cuz i did install it after I reinstalled all.

Or i have not installed any program so I could change anything. I installed a disk that came with the motherboard.

My experience with Ai Probe hasn't been a good one. I ultimately found out that my otherwise stable system was restarting due to a driver associated with it. But more to the point of your issue, I'm wondering if it is overriding your core voltage somehow. If it's installed, can you uninstall it and see if your core voltage drops? The reason I'm saying this is that your core voltage is what I would expect it to be in the BIOS (1.056V), but when you get to Windows it's over .24V higher. I would expect it to be higher by a small margin, but not that high. So it seems to me that something is overriding the core voltage once your system gets into Windows.

Maby you did not see, but I have not installed Ai Probe (what i know, cant fint it on my computer) but I installed the CD that came with the motherboard.

When you installed the software for the motherboard, did you do an express install, or did you individually pick the drivers? If you just did the express install, then Ai Probe likely was installed. It should show up under Programs and Features in the Control Panel.

I could proceed with telling you how to lower your Vcore in the BIOS, but there is no point if software is overriding it once it gets to Windows.

I cant find the Ai Probe. I looked at the CD and it sais ASUS Probe 2 drivers. But I cant find it on the computer.

Well it looks as if it wasn't installed.

Lets try the BIOS. From your screenshot that you provided, you were in the correct place. Where is says Auto, change that to Manual. Once you've done this a new option will appear called CPU Core Voltage Override and this will be defaulted to Auto. In this space type 1.150. This will force it to 1.15V, make sure you type it correctly, if you type something higher it could damage the CPU. Once you've done this save and reboot. Once in Windows monitor your Vcore and then stress test. Let me know how you make out.

Ok, now is the voltage between 1.29-1.13 ideling and 1.096-1.054 with 100% load. I dont understand. Without changing in the bios

Should I still change in the bios?
