Hello everyone,

Summary: Can I buy Windows 7 and run the disk to wipe the drive with Windows 10 and install Windows 7 while still being able to download the necessary Dell drivers which requires the tower to be the Inspiron 3847. In case asked, there are drivers from Dell's site for Windows 7 and the Inspiron 3847.

Recently a friend of mine has had to purchase a new PC (which he uses for basic program running) and he is not very tech savvy. His older inspiron which was purchased 6 years ago has Windows 7. The new version has Windows 10 and he is very hesitant to use it as it is so different for him. When I contacted them, they told me that it cannot be downgraded because it was pre-injected with Windows 10. If I get him a copy of Windows 7 Home, can I go to the BIOS and have the DVD drive be the boot device so that I can have windows 7 installed on the drive? If so, will I also be able to download and install the needed Dell Inspiron 3847 drivers for it? I tried to do so on another drive to his old Inspiron with no knowledge if it would work or not (I've never taken storage from one PC to a new PC.) but I specifically looked for the drivers for Windows 7 from dell.com and fortunately they had them for Win 7 and 10. Unfortunately, the BIOS driver, specifically, said that it could not install because the PC was not the Inspiron 3847.

Solution
DO NOT BUY A NEW LICENSE!!!

Download the Dell OEM Windows 7 Install disk from my personal site here

http://ttz123.com/files/Windows/Dell%20OEM%20Install%20Disk/Windows%207%2064%20Bit/

Download all of them, run the first one and it will extract the ISO. Burn that ISO to a DVD or use Rufus to make a bootable Thumb drive.

When you install it SELECT WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM! This way if he want windows 10 back all he has to do is to the upgrade or just make a USB windows 10 drive and just to a clean install of windows 10 (It WILL know that PC came with 10 Home Premium.

NO LICENSE KEY NEEDED. Will auto activate! Just make sure you download the drives for it (windows 10 drivers should work just fine if not let me know and I can get you...

Note: Go into BIOS, Disable Secure Boot, Then Set it to Legacy Boot disabling the uEFI boot for Windows 7.

Do this all the time and had a client buy 9 of these and I had to do that.

Don't install any other version if he ever wants to do an upgrade and keep his stuff if he moves to Windows 10.
