I know nowadays 2GB isn't really considered enough vram for high end gaming. So especially when looking to upgrade graphics performance, buying another 2 GB card to sli probably isn't the answer. I know memory doesn't stack so the two cards would share the 2GB's of vram.

Here's my situation, I've upgraded my system from one of the first gen AMD FX 8 core cpus to a 6700k. Even with a single GTX 770 with 2 gigs of ram, I have no problems with running any game, most even on highest or high settings with 1080p. Between the new motherboard, ram, cpu, and storage devices, I've spent ABOUT as much as I'm willing on upgrades for bit.

I don't want to go buy a new 980ti right now, mainly because nvidia is rumored to release it's next gen in the next couple quarters. My logic is buy a used GTX 770 for cheap and use it SLI for another year or so until the next gen's equivalent of the current 980/980ti is available and then I'll move up to 4k monitors and such.

So...will the GTX 770 2GB in SLI hurt more than it will help because of it's memory limit? I'm not worried about tinkering with SLI or any headache, I love messing with all that kinda stuff. I just don't want to buy another card on the cheap if performance will end up going down or stay the same because of vram.

You will get more performance in games, as well as the pains and compatibility issuers with running SLI in some games, but when it comes to running games above 1080p you will run into a few issues with the amount of Vram.

In my opinion i would save my money and buy a next gen card once they are released, and bench-marked by a few people (to see if its worth buying them or the then highly discounted GTX 980 ti.

Hope this helps.
