The MSI card should run slightly cooler under load (and similar noise levels).
I dont recommend the 4GB models unless you intend to SLI, nor do I recommend a 960 if you have the PSU or budget for a 380. It performs about 10-15% faster.

I own the MSI 970 Gaming and the MSI 960 , BOTH CARDS are fantastic performers and run very cool.

the best card would be a 960 or r9 380 however i would save a bit more and get a 970 it is faster and better for the price
hi everyone is have a similar question, about the gtx 970. i didn't wanna open another thread and thought it makes sense here. so im looking to buy the EVGA GTX 970, and theres a bunch of them on newegg, ranging from $330 to $360, and i don't know why 
the only real difference i can see is the core clock, on the cheaper ones its 1050Mhz, the more expensive ones have 1216 MHz and theres one with 1190 MHz. Other than that I dont really see a difference between the cards, but I wanna know which one i should take (is it worth the 30 extra bucks?)

I'm with OP. The 2 occasions I had the "pleasure" of dealing with ATI cards were horror driver fests.
Needing hacked 3rd party community drivers to even get games to work.
Plus nearly any time I see a new patch for a game and I check the forums for something there are pages of people with Radeon issues. Like Diablo had some crap where if you went into certain map types it would just crash to desktop.
Nvidia has been smooth for me always.

As other are saying, The R9 380 destroys the gtx 960, (this is coming from a nvidia fan) id highly recommend not getting the 960 as its a waste of your money.
Yes msi 960 is better choice there, but if you will get an r9 380 this one costs same and will destroy it performance wise

just go for the msi one. or asus like WERE TALKING MSI 1 FPS IMPROVEMENT VS 1 CELSIUS COOLER ON ASUS.
